More about the provenance Birjand | Iran
Birjand (also: "Birjend") is located in North East Iran in the province of Khorassan South of Mashad. The rugs from Birjand are often traded as Khorassan rugs. The "Jufti" knot has its origin in Birjand. Heavily influenced by its "big brother" Mashad you will often find finely patterned medallions but also allover Botteh designs on ivory ground (influenced by the Moud region). Altogether a beautiful and solid Persian rug provenance.
