More about the provenance Sarouk, ca. 1950 | Iran
Sarouk is located in West Iran, in the zone of production of Arak. The source of this important provenance has been in the village of Sarouk (also written Sarough) North of Arak. Sarouks are known to be of high quality. The pile is usually higher than the average Persian rug and therefore Sarouks are rather heavy and solid rugs, the wool being used is high quality durable wool.
In Europe the term for this kind of Sarouk, ca. 1950 is "American Sarouk, ca. 1950". Of course "American" rugs are not made in America, they are re-imports from America to Europe. In the beginning of the 20th century up to the 1930s, certain rugs were made specifically for the American market and taste which had of course common characteristic designs and colors. These were apparently also much appreciated by Europeans which can be seen by their high popularity to this day.
