The Ghashgai nomads live mainly in the Shiraz area of Iran and belong to the Turk peoples. There are approx. 300,000 Ghashgai nomads at present. Probably they came to Iran in the 13th/14th century from Caucasus and they speak Turkish dialects. Ghashgai nomads are proud, freedom-loving and hospitable people. They are considered to be the richest among Persian nomads and they are of Shiite faith. Ghashgai rugs belong to the finest and most valuable of nomadic rugs.
