American
In Europe the term "American" for an Oriental rug does not describe a carpet "made in America", but a re-import of a carpet from America to Europe. This expression is not being used in the USA but rather in Europe. In the beginning of the 20th century up to the 1930s, certain rugs were made specifically for the American market and taste which had of course common characteristic designs and colors (mostly American Sarouks and American Kashan. These were apparently also much appreciated by Europeans which can be concluded by their high popularity to this day.
