Egypt
After the integration into the Ottoman Empire (1517) from the 16th until the 18th century the big manufactories of Cairo merely worked for the Sultan's court. Due to the recruit of the best Egyptian carpet makers the sultans improved the Anatolian art of carpet making as well. Today beautiful and high quality rugs are being made with vegetables dyes in and around Cairo and Mehalla under strong influence of the Persian art of carpets. These "Persian" Egyptian rugs come very close to their originals in terms of quality and beauty.
