Mirzapour
Already back in the Mogul period, carpets have been made in the Indian district of Mirzapour. The carpet weavers of this area still celebrate the "Great Day Of The Carpet Weaver" in the month of Moharam. According to a legend Lokman Hakim was the only person who managed to escape from a foray of a caravan. He was then welcomed and hosted by friendly people of a neraby village. He settled down there and taught the inhabitants the art of carpet weaving. The area of Mirzapour and Bhadohi today is one of the most significant carpet making areas of India. Recently they started to make carpets influenced by Berber rugs of North Africa with natural dyes.
