Romania
Romanian rugs belong to the group of Balkan rugs. The tradition of Romanian rugs can be traced back to the rugs made in the 16/17th century in Braila and Banat (inspired by Ushak rugs). From 1513 until 1699 large parts of Romania have been under Ottoman reign whereby carpet weavers from Ottoman Turkey came into the country and introduced the art of carpet making to Romania. Mostly Persian designs serve as examples to Romanian rugs with partly astonishing results.
