Teheran
Teheran has been the capital of Persia (now Iran) since 1796. Teheran was the residence of S.M. Reza Shah Pahlavi and seat of government and parliament of the Persian Empire. Teheran has a relatively young history. Only under the Pahlavi dynasty did Teheran develop into a city of world relevance. Teheran has become the most significant trade center for Persian rugs. Exporters inside and outside the huge Bazar send the rugs to every place in the world. The court manufactories introduced and run by the Kajars are still operating, whereby the manufactories of the private sector mostly moved to Qum and Varamin. The original fine Teheran carpet is only very rarely found in the trade and is highly desired.
