Tekke
The Tekke are one of the most significant Turkmenian tribes. They mostly lived as nomads in the Russian area above the northern border of Iran until they - as many other nomads - have been made sedentary and settled down in North Iran. The carpets of the Tekke-Turkmens are consider to be the finest and most precious Turkmen rugs. They were introduced and traded in the market as "Russian Bukhara carpets". The following characteristics are typical of Tekke rugs: using very fine thread, keeping the pile short, and a firm and pliant grip. Genuine old Tekke rugs are very desired and achieve high trade prices.
